Widespread Grylloblattid Insects After the End-Permian Mass Extinction

چکیده

The end-Permian mass extinction (EPME) led to a severe terrestrial ecosystem collapse. However, the ecological response of insects EPME remains poorly understood. Here, we report new species assigned Chauliodites , tongchuanensis sp. nov. (Grylloblattida: Chaulioditidae), from Middle Triassic Tongchuan Formation Shaanxi, northwestern China, and redescribe fuyuanensis ( Lin, 1978 ) Lower Kayitou Yunnan nanshenghuensis comb. Guizhou, southwestern China. Our results show that widely distributed after is probably related rise isoetalean-dominated low-productivity ecosystems.

Calibrating the end-Permian mass extinction.

The end-Permian mass extinction was the most severe biodiversity crisis in Earth history. To better constrain the timing, and ultimately the causes of this event, we collected a suite of geochronologic, isotopic, and biostratigraphic data on several well-preserved sedimentary sections in South China. High-precision U-Pb dating reveals that the extinction peak occurred just before 252.28 ± 0.08 ...

Paleophysiology and end-Permian mass extinction

Physiological research aimed at understanding current global change provides a basis for evaluating selective survivorship associated with Permo-Triassic mass extinction. Comparative physiology links paleontological and paleoenvironmental observations, supporting the hypothesis that an end-Permian trigger, most likely Siberian Trap volcanism, touched off a set of physically-linked perturbations...

The end-Permian extinction

The end Permian extinction was the greatest mass extinction of the Phanerozoic Era. It impacted marine and terrestrial plants and animals. Although the rate of the extinction has been controversial in the past, recent evidence suggests that the extinction progressed in two pulses approximately 5-12 million years apart. The second pulse of the extinction is marked by a sharp temperature spike an...

Calcium isotope constraints on the end-Permian mass extinction.

The end-Permian mass extinction horizon is marked by an abrupt shift in style of carbonate sedimentation and a negative excursion in the carbon isotope (delta(13)C) composition of carbonate minerals. Several extinction scenarios consistent with these observations have been put forward. Secular variation in the calcium isotope (delta(44/40)Ca) composition of marine sediments provides a tool for ...

Provincialization of terrestrial faunas following the end-Permian mass extinction.

In addition to their devastating effects on global biodiversity, mass extinctions have had a long-term influence on the history of life by eliminating dominant lineages that suppressed ecological change. Here, we test whether the end-Permian mass extinction (252.3 Ma) affected the distribution of tetrapod faunas within the southern hemisphere and apply quantitative methods to analyze four compo...
